Honoring Dr. Dominic J. Marino, Chairman of the Department of Surgery and Chief of Staff of Long Island Veterinary Specialists, an internationally recognized veterinary specialty center with a staff of over 180. Dr. Marino is a member of the CSF Medical Research Board and has pioneered cutting edge operative techniques on dogs with Chiari-like malformation. His canine research focus will lead to a better understanding of Chiari and syringomyelia in humans and will hopefully lead to better surgical outcomes in children and puppies.

Two classes:
“Seizure Management in Dogs: Going Beyond Standard Therapy”
Seizure disorders, most notably idiopathic epilepsy, are commonly encountered in small animal practice. This presentation reviews traditional and newer therapeutic options for dogs and cats with seizures. In addition, novel options for seizure control that will hopefully be available in the near future are discussed.
RACE approved for 1.5 CE credits
“Brain and Spinal Trauma in Dogs and Cats”
Traumatic injury to the brain and spinal cord is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in dogs and cats. The pathophysiology and emergency treatment of CNS trauma will be covered in this presentation. Also, specific medical and surgical treatment options will be discussed.

Dr. Curtis Dewey is an associate professor and section head of Neurology/Neurosurgery at College of Veterinary Medicine, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. He is a diplomate of both the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (neurology) and the American College of Veterinary Surgery. Dr. Dewey is the author of “A Practical Guide to Canine and Feline Neurology”, a recognized textbook of veterinary neurology; currently in its second edition. He has lectured on varied veterinary topics including vestibular and cochlear nerve damage, disorders of the brain, selected encephalopathies, myasthenia gravis, seizure control, spinal cord disorders, head trauma and disc disease.
