Greater Metropolitan Washington Area Chapter Education & Awareness Program
Makenzie Mathis, one of the organizers of the CSF Carolina’s Chapter (read Makenzie’s story), was at the July 20 meeting to call the meeting to order and welcome the Metropolitan Area Chapter members. This was followed by a brief presentation of CSF’s accomplishments given by Executive Director, Dorothy Poppe. Members viewed the DVD presentation of “A New Life for Zoe,” the story of a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel with Chiari malformation and syringomyelia. Dr. Fraser Henderson, President of the Chapter, presented preliminary remarks and introduced the featured speaker, Dr. Riad Dakheel.
Dr. Riad Dakheel, pulmonary disease and sleep specialist from Doctors Community Hospital gave an informative presentation on sleep disorders associated with Chiari malformation. Due to technical difficulties, the taping of the lecture was not possible. Fortunately, we are able to share this valuable information through the Power Point presentation that was viewed by meeting attendees on July 20 at Doctors Community Hospital.
Pain & Sleep
When you have aches and pains, you are also likely to lose a lot of sleep. When pain disrupts sleep, it may lead to difficulty maintaining alertness, lack of energy, impaired mood, and trouble handling stress. Lack of sleep can also put you at risk for injury, poor health, workplace accidents and motor vehicle crashes.
